Public Transport at Malir Halt

Derived from a Sindhi word meaning "greenery", Malir was historically the lush agricultural countryside of Karachi, famous for its sprawling fruit and vegetable farms. Prior to British colonization, it was a quiet rural expanse inhabited primarily by indigenous Sindhi and Kalmati Baloch tribes.

The area's rapid transformation into an urban center is deeply tied to its transit roots. Malir Halt Railway Station emerged during the colonial-era railway expansion that began with the historic Karachi-Kotri line in 1861. Interestingly, during World War II, the nearby Malir Cantonment was established in 1941 initially as a Prisoner of War camp for the British Indian Army, bringing early modern infrastructure to the farmland.

Following the 1947 partition, a massive influx of refugees transformed Malir into a bustling semi-urban hub. Today, Malir Halt stands as a testament to Karachi's incredible growth, remaining a vital transit node on the Karachi Circular Railway.
