Public Transport at I.I. Chundrigar

I.I. Chundrigar Road is the undisputed financial nerve center of Karachi, widely recognized as the ""Wall Street of Pakistan."" Originally known as McLeod Road during the British colonial era, this thoroughfare was historically the city's most critical commercial artery. It was designed to link the booming Karachi Port directly to the railway network and the wider subcontinent. Following independence, the road was officially renamed in honor of Ibrahim Ismail Chundrigar, the sixth Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The road has deep, fascinating transit roots. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was a primary route for the historic East India Tramway, which carried daily passengers on steam and later petrol-driven streetcars. Today, the historic trams are gone, but the avenue remains heavily trafficked by commuters traveling to the State Bank of Pakistan, the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and numerous corporate headquarters, blending Victorian-era architectural heritage with the frenetic energy of modern finance.
