The neighborhood is deeply rooted in post-partition history; it was originally settled in the late 1940s and 1950s by middle-class Hyderabadi Muslim refugees who migrated following the creation of Pakistan and the 1948 annexation of Hyderabad State by India. It was named in honor of Bahadur Yar Jang, a prominent Muslim nationalist leader from Hyderabad Deccan.
